Hi! I just wanted to tell you that I really love your thoughtful answers. It's obvious you spend some time writing them and not just leave a quick note. I emailed you about a question some time ago and you were the nicest person ever and every time I read an answer from you to someone else I see you really care. Another thing I like about you and your tumblr is that you are not arrogant and "know it all", you recognize you're still learning too and just share your opinions on things:) Sally*
Hello Sally! I remember you:)
I’m actually a bit speechless, so I’ll just thank you for the nicest message ever:D
What should a 16 year old aspiring interior designer know? what kind of programs should he/she be good at? btw,I love your blog
I’m not a professional yet but think it is important to train your eye with images, with colour, develop an aesthetic you feel identified with. You should also read about it.
You are very young and shouldn’t hurry too much into the technical side of it, that’s what education is for. In my opinion I would focus into exploring the visual side of it and if possible change things around the house, maybe invest in DIY projects because you get the sense of how things are done using your hands and get a more realistic approach to it. Be open to the creative side of it:) I can share more with you if you want. Send an e-mail*
your blog is stunning, i'm absolutely in love with interior design so your blog is perfection! who would you say is your favourite interior designer?
I don’t have a favourite interior designer but I really like some interior stylists work like Lotta Agaton and Selina Lake. Lotta’s work I see as a great base to add colour because it’s too black & white fot me and Selina is known for her “Bazaar Style” which is much more me and she does it brilliantly.
“It was the opinion of more than one contemporary visitor that the Dutch (in the 17th century) prized three things above all else: first their children, second their homes, and third their gardens.”—Witold Rybczynsky in “home - a short history of an idea”
Hello. I am a big fan of your blog and I was hoping you could help me out. I am renting a home that has all wooden floors with the exception of a room where the fire place is. The room has grey built in shelves and beautiful windows, it would be a very cozy room if it was not for the pale beige tile floor. I was wondering what type of rug would go well with this strange tile floor?
I don’t know how exactly how the floor looks like but I would say that a big and colorful rug would warm up the room and help to the cosy atmosphere you are looking for. The texture is important too, so choose something that feels nice so it will add an extra points of comfort.
Good luck on your hunt for the perfect rug!:) And thank you!*
Wow! I rarely post but I have been having a bad day, saw your blog and really cheered me up. Thanks a lot for that. And, yes, I started living in this flat recently, and i have things i wanna do but don't know when to start(like you wanna say something and you don't know when to start), your blogged really helped me,so thanks again! Have a great day and hope you could keep posting :))
Dear anon, if my tumblr helped you like you said, well, I could not ask for more:) Thank you for the kind words and support. I’ll keep posting, don’t worry:)*
Hello Sofia, what is your favourite interior style? What is the most important item in a home to you? What is your favourite room and why?
My favourite style would be Scandinavian Eclectic (I guess I can call it that). For me the most important thing in a house is natural light, and if I had to choose a piece of furniture it would be a bed. And in general I find open kitchens conected to living rooms very central because so much happens in there, it is really the heart of the house but my favourite room would depend on the house and its characteristics.
I'm also an aspiring interior designer and decorator (how could one ever decide which to be) and your answer to the question of your perfect house, I can totally relate to. I think being lovers of design we are inspired by so many things that can't necessarily all flow together nicely in one house. just the trials and tribulations of loving design I suppose. also, just wanted to say that I absolutely love your blog. so much inspiration to be found here, thanks for investing your time into it
Thank you Anon:) And I believe that designing and decorating your own house must be a challenge when you are a professional. In a way you know too much, have seen to much and like too many things. It will be hard to compromise but that’s a problem I wouldn’t mind to have, it would be a good sign ^_^
Hello Sofia! What would be a perfect house for you?
That’s a difficult question. In my mind I already lived in many different places and each one quite different from the other; imagination oh yeah \m/
And because I like so many different types of houses it is difficult to say which would be perfect but I can share the ones I would like to live for real: a boat moored on a canal, a wood house with wall to wall windows where I could see a river, a victorian house in Queen’s Park (London), an attic loft with wooden beams and an apartment from the 19th century in Chiado (Lisbon) with its high and detailed ceilings, big windows with wood shutters, tiny balconies and long hardwood floors.
If one day I get to live in just one of these I’ll be truly happy:)
